Hypothyroidism is a condition, which may result in more and more gaining of weight with delay in time period of its diagnosis. While one is becoming hypothyroid, the rate of metabolism begins to slow down gradually. This results in burning of very few calories per day. And with time, even those small amounts of calories also begin to add up.

Since, this condition makes one more lazy and tired; one becomes less interested in performing any sort of exercise. Giving nil physical effort to the may result in further reduction of metabolism rate.

Due to tiredness, one feels like eating more amount of food, especially rich in carbohydrates. Thus, the entire condition results in worst kind of weight gain, which is extremely difficult to lose.

If one gets the diagnosis done on time, then one may avoid the extreme condition from occurring. One then might not have to work that hard to lose the weight. Anyhow, one cannot change the things that have done or happened, only thing that can be done is to work on it and try to improve the worsen condition.

Although, it is really hard to lose the weight with hypothyroidism condition, one should not lose heart and should stay motivated in the positive manner. Firstly, one will be asked that if has started gaining the weight before diagnosis of the thyroid problem, then one will be told that have good chances of losing the weight easily.

In later condition, even if the person has “normal” level of TSH, low-fat and low calorie diets and workouts, one may still be feeling variation in gaining or losing of the weight. The condition will not be identified clearly.

One may also get high level of cholesterol. The doctors may then tell that the problem of thyroid has nothing to do with the gaining or losing of the weight. But, the fact is hypothyroidism somehow do effect the weight gain.

Some people are even reported to have a daily diet of 900 calories. They go for a 3 miles walk daily but are not finding any change in the weight.

The thyroid patients should be able to understand the three major factors that can work effectively for losing the weight. These three factors are metabolic set point, insulin resistance and changes in the chemistry of brain. Working in these three factors may lessen the hard work for weight loss in thyroid patients.
