Exercise vs. Diet for Weight Loss

The major health problem of most of the developed countries today is of obesity. It is not only responsible for the decreasing work performance but also for other chronic health problems like diabetes, heart stroke, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. There are a lot of discussions all over the world on the types of weight loss programs. Some individual suggests dieting as more effective while most of them suggest the exercise as a remedy of the problem.

One common thing found among all the studies is that the weight loss gained by the diet control is three times more than the exercise for the same period.

However, the chances of weight gain after a dietary control is more than that of the exercise programs. In other words the weight lost by the exercises is much more stable for a longer period as compared to the weight lost by the dieting. Most of the weight control programs show a major difference in terms of weight gain when compared to each other.

The common reason of being overweight is that an individual burns less calories than he consumes. In order to lose weight one has to make the balance reverse and to burn more calories than he consumes. This balance can be achieved by burning more calories, eating fewer or by using both of these methods. Eating fewer calories doesn’t always mean dieting; one can reduce the amount of calories by eating food that is low in calorie intensity.

The most common high calorie foods are high fat meat, sugar, alcohol, cheese or snack foods. One can include a large proportion of lower calorie food as compared to the high calorie food in order to get the effective diet. Most of the expert says that cutting of the calories makes the weight losing process faster.

The recent study of Minnesota University suggests that the control of diet considerably help to reduce the weight and obesity very quickly. The participants of the study decreased the use of amount of high fat food in their diet and made a considerable difference in the weight without making any significant change in the habit of exercising. The individual who get the weight control by reducing the fat intake must stick with these dietary habits else these benefits will not be long-lasting.

However, the weight controlled by the exercises happens gradually but it is long lasting as compared to the weight lost by the dieting. An individual can combine both the processes to get an effective control over the weight.
