Obese Patients are at Risk Having Pancreatic Surgery

The recent study conducted by a professor of Thomas Jefferson University reveled that the individual with obesity are on high life threatening risk while having the pancreatic surgeries. The study was first published in the news release of the Thomas Jefferson University. The professor Adam Burger MD of Jefferson medical collage coordinated the study that the complication like the blood loss, increased time on the operation table and long hospital stay are more common among the people with obesity as compared to the normal individuals.

The professor insisted on the seriousness of the problem of obesity and said that it is one of the challenging tasks for the health professionals to meet with the challenge of increase BMI.

It leads to greater risk of not only a number of diseases but also raises the complication on the operation table. In addition to that the increased obesity leads to numerous other problems of the health and increase the rate of mortality and morbidity among the affected individuals.

The study is conducted on more than 200 people and the in the period of six years from 2000 to 2005. According to the weight calculation on the time of surgery 46 percent patient are of the normal weight, 29 percent were overweight and 25 percent were affected by the problem of obesity.

The mortality rate at the operation table is 2% overall patients while more than 10 percent in the overweight and obese people. Moreover, the rate of complication in the obese patient was 10% more than that with the normal patients.

Classic Whipple procedure was performed on half of the patients and half other were underwent a pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy.

The different types of patients show different level of complexity during the surgical procedure but the amount of risk was always higher in the patients who are facing the problem of obesity.

The study has cleared the amount of risk that is associated with the problem of obesity. Meanwhile this is not the single study that came with these types of results. There are many other studies to reveal different complications related to the problem of obesity.

In addition to that there are a number of diseases associated with the problem of obesity. It is better to control it in time to decrease the different risks associated with it. There are many health guides to help the individual decreasing the problem of obesity more effectively.
